Ronald Leary Contract Details

Beyond the fold is the table of how Leary’s contract table should look via reports from Wilson and Pelissero:

Year Base Salary Prorated Signing Bonus Roster Bonus Cap Number Dead Money (pre-6/1 cut) Cap Savings
2017 $2,500,000 $875,000 $5,000,000 $8,375,000 $13,650,000 ($5,275,000)
2018 $7,650,000 $875,000  $250,000 $8,875,000 $10,275,000 ($1,400,000)
2019 $8,150,000 $875,000  $250,000 $9,375,000 $1,750,000 $7,625,000
2020 $8,150,000 $875,000  $250,000 $9,375,000 $875,000 $8,500,000

italics – fully guaranteed money

This contract is a firm two year commitment by the Broncos to Leary–barring a trade they will not be able to get out of it until 2019 without serious dead money consequences.  This is also a contract that is rather light on a signing bonuses and rather heavy on salaries and roster bonuses to provided guaranteed money.  This gives Leary a higher cap number than typical in 2017, but lower than typical in later years.

Finally, as should be no surprise, the Broncos hold a team option on the final year, allowing Leary to become a UFA one year early and allowing Leary to count in their favor for 2021 compensatory picks (should they still exist in the next CBA).

UPDATE – 3:45 PM MT: Wilson and Pelissero did not mention that from 2018-2020, Leary is due $250,000 in annual per-game roster bonuses, and $100,000 in annual workout bonuses.  This information was discovered by Jason, and you can see his version of Leary’s contract table here.
